Patchwork of the Crosses Finish

My Patchwork of the Crosses Quilt top is finished.
What a great feeling.
It has been all consuming, but I love it and the process.

It has taken about one year to complete!
Now it is off to Helen to machine quilt.

I have finished the edges like this - you can just see my final sewing
line drawn on. I will trim it back once it has been quilted.

Then bind it with the same cream as the background fabric.

Now off to finish a couple of other projects before starting a
new taupe Block of the Month.

Karen Styles Workshop

This was a great event last weekend. We made stunning stars by hand or machine.
Most people ended up making Karen's Hamilton Quilt.

I t has a giant star in the centre and smaller ones of three different
sizes floating around it.

We started making more simple stars made out of two alternating fabrics.

Jane's

And then moved on to making fussy cut stars.

Cindy's

Jane's

The stars below are the centre of the big star in the middle of the quilt

Di's

Jenny's

Shirley's

Lesley's

And finally a  collage of centre stars.

My Patchwork of the Crosses is almost finished and is hopefully off to Helen,  the
quilter on Friday, so I will be back blogging with more variety now.

Riley Blake Workshop Day 2

Today we had more sewing time and another business related seminar
at the Riley Blake Workshop run by Cindy and Jina from the USA.
They were great presenters full of good ideas and projects with a difference for us.
This is Jina holding my toddler skirt - don't the spots work so well.

First up was some Hexagami - the first one made wasn't quite perfect as Cindy
had pre-warned us it probably wouldn't be. But the second was pretty good.
They are just 2" so required some quite delicate folding.

Then it was on to sewing knits on the overlocker - a new experience
for me. We made these little toddler skirts and matching headbands - so
cute with the lovely Riley Blake fabrics.

Hopefully tomorrow I will get time to make the final project.
I wasn't able to make the Friday morning session where they made a project
using the laminated fabric.

So everything going to plan I will be back tomorrow.

Riley Blake Workshop

Today and tomorrow I am at a Riley Blake Workshop put on by our local
wholesaler of these fabrics.

Riley Blake designs and sells stunning modern style fabrics many of which we
have in our Modern area at the shop. They do great prints for modern children's quilts.

This is Cindy the owner of Riley Blake Fabrics holding my two projects.

Today we had a business seminar and sewing workshops.
This is what I made:

. . . a wine bottle carrier - or it can be used for other bottles as gifts eg: olive oil,
sauces, etc. Cindy told us of a friend who makes bags of all sorts of shapes
and sizes and never wraps gifts in paper! Now there is a challenge.

. . . a cute pouch for presenting gifts in - eg: little Easter Eggs, a piece of
jewelry, a nice soap, sewing bits and bobs, etc.

Back soon with a post about what we make tomorrow.
